Leading developer Durkan Estates highlights the housing market has showed further signs of stabilising with a steep rise in the number of first-time buyers getting on to the property ladder at its Bauhaus development in Croydon. (Story sourced from here)

Across the country, a total of 17,200 mortgages were taken out in June by people buying their first home, 26 per cent more than during May according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders. Plus around 45,000 mortgages were advanced for house purchases during the month, the fifth consecutive monthly increase and the highest level for a year.

Bauhaus has proved increasingly popular with first time buyers including 26 year old Caroline Lawrance who has purchased a one bedroom apartment at the development. Caroline comments: "Purchasing my first home was a daunting experience. There are so many options out there for first time buyers and I spent a long time researching what was affordable. With prices dropping, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to purchase a property that would hopefully secure a future for me on the property ladder."
