East Croydon masterplan progresses
Published: 2009-09-18 11:49:09 Architect Egret West is making steady progress towards the target of developing a masterplan for East Croydon by early winter.
Egret West is developing proposals in partnership with the council, Transport for London, Stanhope Schroder, Menta, Network Rail, Royal Mail and the Homes and Communities Agency. The project board expects to receive an early draft masterplan at the beginning of October. Egret West has already been talking to private and public sector landowners and stakeholders to help shape initial ideas. A walkabout on September 9th involved councillors who will have formal responsibility to ensure the strategic objectives of the masterplan are included in the Croydon core strategy that will govern development plans. During the Open House weekend on 19th and 20th September a number of buildings opened their doors to visitors. Egret West organised an event on the top floor of the NLA Tower (No. 1 Croydon), providing a bird’s eye view of the whole East Croydon. "Early discussions on initial ideas have already taken place within the project board that involves all the key partners with a stake in the future shape of East Croydon," said cabinet member for planning and conservation, councillor Jason Perry. "The walkabout provided the masterplanners with the opportunity to take on board the views of ward councillors as we edge closer to producing a masterplan that ensures all development proposals fit comfortably together within an ambitious, overall vision. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity." |
