Academy Approval

Published: 2009-09-29 10:14:50

The Secretary of State for Children, Schools, and Families, Ed Balls has approved Croydon Council's proposals to establish The Quest Academy on the site of Selsdon High School from September 2010.

The proposal sees the academy, which would be run by The Coloma Trust, replace Selsdon High School, and the Government have agreed 'in principle' to this plan.

A public meeting is to be held at Selsdon High School in early November to discuss plans to close the existing school and replace it with an academy.

Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Learners, said: “Croydon Council is committed to providing the best possible education to children right across the borough.

“Our academy proposals are a key element of the Transforming Croydon Schools programme, so I am absolutely delighted that the Secretary of State has given us the go-ahead to establish The Quest Academy.

“Academies have a proven track record of increasing opportunities for pupils, raising aspirations and transforming educational standards.  The Quest Academy - Coloma Trust will transform the standard of education in South Croydon.

“Croydon’s parents want the best for their children and Croydon’s children deserve the best education. The new school means that parents will have the choice to send their children to a school run by the same Trust as one of the best comprehensive schools in the country.”
