Quest Academy plans approvedPublished: 2010-01-20 10:58:22 Selsdon High School looks set to be replaced by The Quest Academy after the Transforming Croydon Schools cabinet approved the proposals.
Under the Academy plans, which were subject to an eight-week period of public consultation in autumn 2009, Selsdon High School will close at the end of the current school year. The Coloma Trust is affiliated to Coloma School in Shirley - one of the most successful and popular schools in Croydon and regularly judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Under the plans, the dated school buildings on the Selsdon site will be replaced with new, state-of-the-art educational facilities by 2013. The Academy intends to offer sixth-form provision by 2012, and it will offer an enhanced academic and vocational curriculum from the outset. Maureen Martin, headteacher at Coloma School and future executive principal of The Quest Academy - Coloma Trust, said: “The Coloma Trust has been maintaining the highest standards in education in Croydon for 140 years. The Quest Academy - Coloma Trust will provide an excellent education for all students, enabling them to realise their academic potential and explore their talents and aspirations through a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. “Quest means the beginning of a new journey - one I am looking forward to making alongside students, staff, parents and the local community.”
