Addiscombe Railway Park open for business

Published: 2010-03-10 10:11:55

Half a mile of new parkland is due to open in Addiscombe this weekend as part of the Railway Park project.

Deputy Mayor and local ward councillor, Councillor Russell Jackson will be formally opening the new stretch of park at 10.30am on Saturday 13 March.

The Railway Park runs from East India Way to Blackhorse Lane and provides direct access to the tram stop, following the route of the former railway line, which closed in 1997.

A cycle track and footpath runs the whole length of the site, and wide grass verges and native trees and shrubs line the boundaries to provide a valuable wildlife corridor.

Councillor Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sports said: “It’s fantastic that Croydon has yet another piece of open green space that residents can enjoy. This park is particularly useful because it allows people to take a safe and pleasant route to the tram stop or the local schools.”

Croydon is blessed with more areas of greenery than you might think. The latest issue of Croydon magazine includes a picture-led feature highlighting some, as well as carrying detail of the latest from the borough’s regeneration programme.
