Steve O'Connell, the council's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "This is great news from the Government and means it is all systems go for the project." He added that knocking down Red Gates, off Purley Way, was "the next stage in a journey" to provide the leisure centre which has already seen the former Propeller pub and the Waylands Day Centre demolished to make way for the development. The project is being developed through the Urban Regeneration Vehicle partnership between the council and developer John Laing. They are working with the Hyde Housing Association, which owns part of the 2.9-hectare site. To read the full story click here.
