Schools plans approved

Published: 2010-05-27 10:36:56

Croydon's blueprint for school transformation across the borough and plans for a new primary school in Selhurst were approved by the Transforming Croydon Schools Cabinet sub-committee yesterday evening.

Croydon Council's Strategy for Change Document - which outlines how the council intends to use Government funding granted by the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme - follows on from the council's formal entry onto the BSF programme in December.

It confirms that the council will prioritise rebuilding Archbishop Lanfranc School, Priory Special School, and Selsdon High School as part of the first phase of the Transforming Croydon Schools programme.

Cllr Tim Pollard, cabinet member for children, young people and learners, said: “Approval of the Strategy for Change Document is a significant milestone for the Transforming Croydon Schools programme, because it sets out the council’s vision for the future of Croydon’s schools as well as indicates where, and how, much-needed Government funding for secondary school renewal will be directed first.

“We want to make sure that every school in Croydon is a good school, where parents are proud to send their children and where every student, whatever their background, gets the best possible start in life - our blueprint explains how we will make this journey.”
