Croydon's architectural 'buzz'

Published: 2010-06-25 10:49:46

Croydon was the centre of attention during the London Festival of Architecture last month.

The Croydon Built Environment Exhibition (CBEE) launched at Croydon Clocktower on 22 June with a private view attended by more than 70 VIP guests.

The exhibition featured work from the borough’s finest in the fields of architecture, landscape, construction and engineering.

Speaking at the launch evening, Councillor Simon Hoar, Croydon’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said the borough’s emerging core strategy was starting to set the aspiration for Croydon to be London’s most enterprising borough, defining it as a place of opportunity, a place to belong and a place with a sustainable future.

"Having missed out on a series of economic cycles in the past, Croydon is making the most of the current situation," he said.

"Its new masterplans capitalise on a period of relative calm, to work in close dialogue with developers and delivery partners so that the metropolitan centre is primed for the upturn."
