TfL cash to improve Norwood Junction

Published: 2010-07-06 13:22:06

The passenger experience at Norwood Junction will soon be easier and more pleasant thanks to £280,000 of funding from Transport for London (TfL).

The money will be used to upgrade the South Norwood station and the surrounding area, and work will begin in the autumn.

Once complete there will be a series of improvements in place including:

•            improved crossing places on the busiest approach roads,

•            specially designed access for those with mobility and sight impairments,

•            crime-reduction and safety measures,

•            better access to buses and taxis,

•            integrated cycle routes,

•            improvements to station entrances,

•            a redesigned forecourt offering secure accommodation for bicycle and disabled parking,

•            enhanced lighting.

Councillor Jason Perry, cabinet member for planning, conservation and climate change, said: “We’re very pleased to have obtained the additional funding that’s making possible all the planned improvements.

"This scheme will make a big, positive difference to everybody who uses Norwood Junction station and we’re delighted to now be in a position to see it going ahead."
