Croydon short-listed for Kickstart cash
Published: 2009-07-29 11:20:32 Two Croydon housing schemes have made it on to the shortlist to receive a share of the Homes and Communities Agency’s £925m Kickstart funding.
The funding represents a major initiative by the Government to help fight the effects of the recession, and is to be used to help get delayed developments back on-site. If either of Croydon’s short-listed projects were to make the final cut it would deliver a huge boost to those concerned with the borough’s regeneration efforts. Housing Minister John Healey said: "We’ve pledged to use the power of Government investment to help Britain through the recession. This billion pound Kickstart programme will get stalled building work back on track, create jobs and help build the quality homes we need. "Two-hundred-and-seventy housing projects across the country are short-listed for a share of £925m. This could kickstart work on up to 22,400 homes and create 20,000 jobs on housebuilding sites that have been mothballed in the recession." All the developments short-listed will now be subject to due diligence, testing their deliverability, risk and financial position before final decisions are made.
