New Croydon Primary School Consultation Begins

On Tuesday evening (3 November) the Transforming Croydon Schools (TCS) cabinet agreed proposals to develop plans for a new primary school on the site of the old Selhurst Boys High School.
 
It is proposed that the school will open September 2011 and create up to 90 new reception places each year with priority given to children from the local Selhurst and Broad Green areas. Also being put forward is a potential partnership with the BRIT School, a nationally recognised outstanding specialist school, located next door to the proposed site of the new school. read more

Window shopping

Empty windows in 35 locations around Croydon are being used to promote local goods and services in a bid to brighten up the streetscape and encourage local trade.
 
The initiative, conceived by the Croydon Economic Development Company's district centre managers (DCMs), will encourage shoppers to stop and hopefully look around at what the local shops and businesses have to offer. read more

Croydon on track

The extension work taking place on the East London Line is due to be completed on schedule.
 
Linking Croydon in the south to Dalston Junction in the north, the new 14-mile line will further improve the borough's transport credentials, and commuters can expect the project to reach completion by 2010. read more

Academy Approval

The Secretary of State for Children, Schools, and Families, Ed Balls has approved Croydon Council's proposals to establish The Quest Academy on the site of Selsdon High School from September 2010.
 
The proposal sees the academy, which would be run by The Coloma Trust, replace Selsdon High School, and the Government have agreed 'in principle' to this plan. read more
