Transport bonus for Purley

Purley town centre is to receive £2.25 million worth of Croydon Council's £3.8 million Local Implementation Plan (LIP) funding for transport and highway projects.

Though the town was disappointed to miss out on funding to reorganise the gyratory system, it will now still be able to look forward to improved transport infrastructure. read more

New starters for Bourne and Moat at Wallington office in Surrey

In August, five new members of staff joined Bourne Housing Society, a subsidiary of Moat, at their Wallington office in Surrey. Colin Tanner joined as community development officer and Tina Russell, Emily Reilly, Maggie Terrey and Bob Staples joined as neighbourhood officers.(Sourced from here.)
 
Bourne is a charitable housing association that manages almost 1,800 homes in South London, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset. Formed in 1965, the association provides high quality personal service for both rented and shared ownership residents. In 2007 Moat welcomed Bourne Housing Society as a new subsidiary. read more

Green hub will set standards for future building in Croydon

Croydon's new public service delivery hub will set standards as one of the most environmentally-friendly developments ever built in the borough.
 
Approved by Croydon Council's planning committee on September 10, the hub features a range of energy-efficiency measures.
 
The hub, which will be used by the council, police and health authority, will be built on the site of 1960s municipal offices in Fell Road and Mint Walk and will replace the high maintenance, and inefficient council buildings of Taberner House, Fell Road, Strand House and Rees House.

East Croydon masterplan progresses

Architect Egret West is making steady progress towards the target of developing a masterplan for East Croydon by early winter.
 
The East Croydon Masterplan will coordinate development in the East Croydon area to create a new urban quarter with an improved transport interchange and railway station, increasing capacity, creating Croydon's 'front door' and enabling the wider regeneration of Croydon. This will all be tied together with an enhanced public realm, linking East Croydon to the improvements being planned for Wellesely Road and the rest of the town centre. read more

Best ever results for Croydon's schools

The percentage of Croydon students gaining five good (A* - C) GCSEs overall has risen from 64% to 74% - far outreaching the national average increase of 1.4% and making 2009 the most successful year for the borough’s schools.
 
The increase also puts Croydon’s schools ahead of the national average attainment figure of 67.1%. read more
