Croydon short-listed for Kickstart cash

Two Croydon housing schemes have made it on to the shortlist to receive a share of the Homes and Communities Agency’s £925m Kickstart funding.

Taylor Wimpey’s Tripod House scheme and New South Quarter (pictured), by Barratt Developments, both feature on the list unveiled this week.

Croydon continues to show signs of strength during the recession, with the news it was leading the charge of London boroughs registering house price growth last month.

Research that tracks asking prices across the country reported an average price increase of 0.6 % to £227,864. London increases were ahead of the average with Westminster posting a 5.2 percent increase, followed closely by Croydon and Camden.

Planning boost for Berkeley Homes

Berkeley Homes’ Wellesley Square development has secured planning permission.

The mixed-use scheme, which will remodel of one of the borough’s major gateways, includes the creation of a new public square, in addition to an iconic 44-storey tower.

Housing Conference comes to Croydon

Following on from publication of the Mayor’s housing strategy for public consultation, 250 of London’s key housing stakeholders will descend on Croydon for a large consultation conference.

The event, which is taking place on the morning of 8 July at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, will see keynote addresses from Boris Johnson and shadow housing minister Grant Shapps. Attendance is by invitation only. read more
